New members 2022
On the 9th of November 2022 Arts and Crafts Association Bornholm welcomed 3 new members, voted in by the external assessment committee. The committee consists of Tine Nygaard, artistic director of Bornholms Kunstmuseum, Susanne Jøker Johnsen, glass designer and exhibitions director at KADK and Ole Jensen, designer. The jury assessed the submitted works and approved 3 artisans. This is the first time Tine Nygaard joins the jury .
With the entry of these new members, ACAB now consists of 71 members, all of which represent the professional craftsmanship of Bornholm.
The past couple of years ACAB has experienced a rather large surge in applicants, which the ACAB board reckons is the effect of Bornholm receiving the acclaimed title of World Craft Region. This esteemed title has resulted in Bornholm being recognized when it comes to arts and crafts.
The new members have been selected based on the criteria below;
- A professional criteria where great craftsmanship, innovative renewal of traditions and perseverance in the corresponding field is considered an essential requirement.
- An aesthetic criteria where superior artistic quality and an experimental and curiosity laden approach to the artistic work is prioritized. The maker is encouraged, in their use of the material, to surprise and express innovation.
- An idea based criteria where the works must have a personal, original expression and show artistic idea, intensity, presence and will.
- An environmental criteria particularly implemented in connection with serial production and industrial design, a criteria where awareness is emphasized in regards to environmental and social consequences in the production.
